Two Years examines the complexity of intimacy in relationships through communication and gesture. Images printed on wax-coated fabric represent the tactile quality of skin and are penetrated by pins to affix them in the space. Disjointed conversations coupled with breathing incorporate tension through sound. The work considers the nuances of expression and inflection in verbal and nonverbal communication, the perception of body language and touch, and the effect it has on attitudes, actions, and identities of partners in relationships.
While Two Years portrays lovers in a polyamorous relationship, the tensions and tenderness speak to the complexities of intimacy in all relationships, traditional and non-traditional.
